Decide to Write

Writing has been a lifelong dream, but like many, I stifled my own creativity. I didn’t know where to start, whether I would be any good, or if I had anything important to convey. Some of that uncertainty was prompted by family and friends, who spoke from a place of caring and concern, attempting to save me from disappointment and dashed hopes. In reality, they knew not of what they spoke, as none of them had any experience with writing.

Writing, in itself, does not necessarily mean pursuing a career as an author. I didn’t realize the distinction at the time, and I’m sure the people cautioning me away from it didn’t, either. My acceptance of their statements fueled self-doubt and delay to the most enjoyable and fulfilling process that I have ever encountered. That being said, there is a right time for each person. I’m grateful that my time has come.

My hope is that this blog will give encouragement and guidance to those who dare to dream; that it will offer some direction to help fledgeling writers discover their voice and find the support so necessary to persevere and thrive in their craft. I will share what I have learned through classes, connections, mistakes, and victories. Thank you for joining in my journey.
